Austrian Stereotypes

Hello everyone,

I know that I haven't post anything for a long time. But I had nine weeks of summer holidays and I was really busy. Because I worked for four weeks and I spent two to three weeks in Croatia. But now I am back again.

I just welcomed the exchange student "Lisa" from England in my school. As her buddy I already spent some time with her. I released  that she had a lot clichés about Austrian people. She thought that every Austrian person is wearing "Dirndl" or "Lederhosen" all the time. But that is wrong.

I mean we love our traditional clothes and we wear them an festivals but we also wear normal jeans and T-Shirts in school or at the weekend.
The second cliché she had about Austria, was that everyone loves skiing. Maybe it is true, we like to see ourselves unbeatable when it comes to skiing and ski jumping.

She also thought, that the most Austrian people are arrogant and unsocial. I think that isn't true or wrong. There are friendly and nice people on the one side and on the other side there are the people who don't like people from other countries.
But the most people are friendly and helpful. So don't be scared to come to Austria.

Now at the end of my post, I have a message for you all out there: Don't judge about other people and their habits!

  1. Hello Sabine!

    I really like your posting :)
    It includes a lot of interesting information and facts.

    But please mind the following: an exchange student ... (instead of a exchange...), I thought you are also interested ...(instead of I thought you also are...), Another cliché is ...(instead of and another things is);

    Please also check the third sentence, I think there is something wrong (check grammar).

    Please also pay attention how you set the commas in the senteces

Eating Habits in Austria

Dear Julia, thanks for your E-Mail, let me give you some information about food and table manners in our family and in restaurants. Lets start with the table manners in a restaurant. Remain standing until invited to sit down. You may shown to a particular seat. Put your napkin on your lap as soon as you sit down. The fork is held in the left hand and the knife in the right hand while eating. Do not begin eating until the host or Hostess says "Mahlzeit" or "Guten Appetit". Finish everything on your plate. So you show the cook that it was good. You have finished eating by laying your knife and fork parallel on your plate. Now I want to tell you table manners and eating habits in our family. During the week, I never eat breakfast because I do not have enough time in the morning to eat something. When I have a long day at school, I eat something for lunch from the buffet at our school. If I have a short day, I take the bus and my mum usually cooks lunch f...
