"Just being social?" - Press Review

Hello everyone,
I have just been reading an article titled „Just being social?“ in the magazine „Business Spotlight“ of February 2017 and it talks about using social medias at work. I thought you might be interested what the text is about because everyone nowadays uses social media on the mobile phone, on the computer or laptop.

Basically what it says is that many of us are working and not working at the same time, for much of the time. This means, that people go to work and check their social-medias in the time they should work instead of checking private things.
It is also said that employers have fired people because they have used the internet for non-work-related activities during their working time. Some also have fired people for posting something on social-media while they worked.
The author mentions that there are different reasons, why the employees use these media apps or sites at work. Some of them are mentioned in the text, for example they use the social-media to take a mental break from work or to get information that helps solve problems at work.
What surprised me most was that the average spend one to two hours for social web at work. It is said that they would be more productive because of the access to these social medias.

An author of Facehooked mentioned in the text that no one can focus for eight hours straight and everyone needs a break during work, that break includes the social-media access.
It is also said that there are many conflicts between social-media use and the work place. It is mentioned that the employees could breach company confidentiality in private posts or write something negative about the company on the internet.
An advantage the text mentioned for the communication between people through social media is that this can be seen as team building, but not every comment or message is welcomed and it could lead to claims of sexual harassment or bullying.

I am sure that this topic won’t be a reason for firing people, because if everyone were honest about how much time they spent on the internet during their working hours, then there would be more than half of the workers unemployed.
So this was my opinion about social-media use at a workplace. Now I want to know what you think about this topic.
