Internships abroad or in the home country

Hello everyone, last english lessons we were talking about an british internship and an austrian internship. Some students of my class are going to fly to Dublin for two weeks at the end of this month. We were talking about the motivation and the reason why they want to get some work experience there and why some people decided to stay in Austria for the time, the other students spend in Dublin. I am not going to Dublin because I cann't afford the flight and another reason maybe is that I never flew before and I could be afraid to go to Dublin by plane. But there are many advantages of working in another country or spending some time abroad. You are able to learn the language better than in the classroom, because you cann't rely on your mother tongue. You have to find the right words or have to rewrite words with others if you don't remember the right one. Culture is another important thing because every country is different and they don't have the sam...

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

, Hello everyone, in the last english lesson we were listening to some interviews. The topic of it was "Opinions about CSR differ". Six speakers gave their statements on CSR. I want to summarize the main points which were stated, then I will give you some information of the importance of this topic in Austria and at the end I will give you my opinion on this topic. The main point the speakers mentioned in their statements was that CSR can have many positive impacts on a business but isn't an option for every company. If a business is too busy surviving hard times, they won't afford to focus on spending money or attracting talented employees. It is also mentioned that there are several ways in which CSR can help companies to reduce their costs or improve profits, e.g. reduce the use of energy and fuel or having lower bills to save some money. One speaker said that being socially responsible could be damaging to a company in the global marketplace. The reason...

Business Etiquette

Hello everyone, in the last english lesson we were talking about business etiquette. It is important to take care about personal and professional behaviour but performance and quality are important too. Don't forget: Business is about people. I have to list the three most important etiquettes that we have mentioned in the last lessons and here they are: Don't interrupt. Interruption in the middle of a sentence is rude and shows disrespect. Be on time. Being punctial shows others that you value their time. Don't walk into someone's office unannounced. Knock on the door, say hello and ask if it's a good time to talk. This topic is really important in the companies and meetings nowadays. But these business etiquettes aren't true for every country. You should inform yourself before having a meeting with people from other countries. I hope you were interested in my blog entry, now let me know your opinion in the comments below.

Environmental NGOs

Hello everyone, in the last english lesson we got some tasks to comply with. I got three environmental NGOs which I want to explain to you. I had to nominate one organisation of them to which this year's donations should go. In the Future there should be a cooperation with the choosen organisation, I will describe you, how I tought about the advantages of it. Lets start with some information about the three environmental NGOs International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Greenpeace (GP), and World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The  IUCN  is a membership Union composed of both government and civil society organisations. It provides public, private, and non-governmental organisations with the knowledge and tools that enable human progress, economic development, and nature conservation to take place together. Created in 1948, IUCN is now the world’s largest and most diverse environmental network, harnessing the knowledge, resources and reach of more than 1.300 M...

Black Friday & Thanksgiving

Hello everyone, I was just reading an article titled "Why is Black Friday called Black Friday?" on the online magizine "the balance". https://www.thebalance.com/why-is-it-called-black-friday-3305712 I tought you might be interested about it because you could get some products cheaper on this day. Basically what the text says is how black friday got its name. Black Friday is the name given to the shopping day after Thanksgiving. The reason for its name is because so many people went shopping and that caused traffic accidents. The first time it was recorded in 1966 by Earl Apfelbaum, a dealer in rare stamps. It is also said that the companys wanted to make "Black Friday" to something positive. The Friday after Thanksgiving is a very profitable day to retailing and to the economy. The retailers used the name to reflect their success. What shocked me most was that Black Friday isn't as positive as it is mentioned in the social medias. There ...
