Environmental NGOs

Hello everyone, in the last english lesson we got some tasks to comply with. I got three environmental NGOs which I want to explain to you. I had to nominate one organisation of them to which this year's donations should go. In the Future there should be a cooperation with the choosen organisation, I will describe you, how I tought about the advantages of it. Lets start with some information about the three environmental NGOs International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Greenpeace (GP), and World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The  IUCN  is a membership Union composed of both government and civil society organisations. It provides public, private, and non-governmental organisations with the knowledge and tools that enable human progress, economic development, and nature conservation to take place together. Created in 1948, IUCN is now the world’s largest and most diverse environmental network, harnessing the knowledge, resources and reach of more than 1.300 M...

Black Friday & Thanksgiving

Hello everyone, I was just reading an article titled "Why is Black Friday called Black Friday?" on the online magizine "the balance". https://www.thebalance.com/why-is-it-called-black-friday-3305712 I tought you might be interested about it because you could get some products cheaper on this day. Basically what the text says is how black friday got its name. Black Friday is the name given to the shopping day after Thanksgiving. The reason for its name is because so many people went shopping and that caused traffic accidents. The first time it was recorded in 1966 by Earl Apfelbaum, a dealer in rare stamps. It is also said that the companys wanted to make "Black Friday" to something positive. The Friday after Thanksgiving is a very profitable day to retailing and to the economy. The retailers used the name to reflect their success. What shocked me most was that Black Friday isn't as positive as it is mentioned in the social medias. There ...

"Just being social?" - Press Review

Hello everyone,  I have just been reading an article titled „Just being social?“ in the magazine „Business Spotlight“ of February 2017 and it talks about using social medias at work. I thought you might be interested what the text is about because everyone nowadays uses social media on the mobile phone, on the computer or laptop. Basically what it says is that many of us are working and not working at the same time, for much of the time. This means, that people go to work and check their social-medias in the time they should work instead of checking private things. It is also said tha t employers have fired people because they have used the internet for non-work-related activities during their working time. Some also have fired people for posting something on social-media while they worked. The author mentions that there are different reasons, why the employees use these media apps or sites at work. Some of them are mentioned in the text, for example they use the socia...

Cultures and Clichés

Hey everybody, I was reading an article titled "Fat-Free and Happy" some time ago in the Time Magazine and it talks about cultures & clichés. I thought you might be interested because  there are so many cultures & clichés all over the world and  everyone knows that clichés die hard. Basically what it says is that the USA are in some points different than the European people think. America has a culture of its own, different but still culture. It is also said that it is true, that everything is bigger in the USA and the people eat a lot of ice cream but with 0 per cent fat. It is also mentioned in the text that America is tolerant in other ways, concerning the gays and lesbians. What surprised me most was that the waitresses are friendlier in the USA than in Europe. I am sure that the European people can learn from the Americans because they are always one step ahead.  And now let me know your opinion  about America, cultures & clichés. You can ...

Valentine's Day

In the last english lesson we talked about Valentine's Day. I thought you might be interested in some information about this day and companies which earn the most only because of this day. By the way, this year I hadn't celebrate that day. Every February 14, across the United States and in other places around the world, candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. Valentine’s Day spending was expected to reach $18.6 billion this year.  On average, Americans are expected to spend $130.97 this holiday. Consumers spend their money on products, such as greeting card, candy or jewelry. Companies that make the most on Valentine’s Day typically look to the holiday as vital to their bottom lines. The Eight Companies that love Valentine's Day American Greetings Corp. (greeting cards) 1-800-Flowers.com Inc. (flowers) The Hershey Co. (candy) Tiffany & Co. (jewelry) Limited Brands  Inc. My Christmas Holidays

Hello everyone, in our last English lesson we talked about Christmas and traditions. I would like to tell you how I celebrated Christmas and New Year. On Christmas Eve, my parents and I decorated our Christmas tree.  Around two o'clock we got some gifts.  On the afternoon, we drove to my grandma and my aunt . We ate and talked a lot. The most surprising present was my writing desk from my aunt. On the next day, I assembled my desk. My dad was so kind and helped me with it. Then, I got ready for the last Christmas visit. We were invited at my aunt's place to eat fondue. We talked about god and the world. I love the Christmas time, everyone gets presents and the family is together talking about everything and being happy. The following week nothing interesting happened, I slept long, did my homework's and studied for my tests and exams. This time was really quiet and sometimes I didn't know what to do against my boredom. I got tight for New Year's Eve beca...
